Broken Wings-English National Ballet

Annabelle Lopez Ochoa's critically acclaimed Broken Wings, featuring Tamara Rojo in the role of Frida Kahlo alongside ballet star Irek Mukhamedov as Diego Rivera. Iconic painter Frida Kahlo is the heroine of this ballet. It is based on Kahlo’s life and art.

Enjoy the English National Ballet’s premiere of Broken Wings, available from 7pm BST on Wednesday 22nd April 2020 and then on-demand for 48 hours.

A unique look behind the scenes at one of the world's most famous cultural institutions.

 The Royal Opera House will be offering a free programme of online ballet broadcasts, masterclasses and cultural insights.

Due to the Covid-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic, productions and events have been postponed at the Royal Opera House and around the world.  ROH have “created a schedule of free broadcasts and live content that audiences can access for free anywhere, anytime across the globe, bringing both ballet and opera to every home and every device”.

This will include the following productions offered on demand and for free via the ROH’s Facebook and YouTube channels:

Peter and the Wolf, The Royal Ballet, 2010 – 27 March 2020, 7pm GMT

Handel’s Acis and Galatea, The Royal Ballet and The Royal Opera – 03 April 2020, 7pm GMT

The Metamorphosis, The Royal Ballet, 2013 – 17 April 2020, 7pm BST

The Winter’s Tale, The Royal Ballet, 2014 – 1 May 2020, 7pm BST

Mayerling (for the older student), and Darcey Bussell: Looking for Margot are all available on BBC iPlayer.

The Royal Opera House will roll out more of their free programme of broadcasts, so look out for updates and announcements via The Royal Opera House's social media.

Update about ballet classes

Due to the escalation of the COVID-19 Coronavirus, regrettably, all classes at Geneva Ballet School have been suspended from 18th March 2020.  Therefore, there will be no classes tomorrow onwards.  The safety of students, parents and carers is paramount. 

This will be reviewed towards the end of the Easter holiday (the end of April 2020) . 

Please keep an eye on the Geneva Ballet School website and in particular, this ‘News’ page for further updates.

The office will remain open as usual.

Introducing Family Ballet Classes.

An enjoyable pre-school ballet class for children aged 3-4 years and their parent, grandparent or carer.  These classes develop children’s co-ordination and physical skills, while encouraging creativity, musicality, confidence and social skills.

Margot Fonteyn International Ballet Competition

This is the last opportunity for Geneva Ballet School students and their friends and families to purchase tickets for the RAD Margot Fonteyn International Ballet Competition, taking place at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden.

GBS has reserved ten tickets (at a discounted rate) available to buy until February 2020.

RAD 2020 Centenary- South East Regional Awards Day

Today was the RAD 2020 Centenary- South East Regional Awards Day.  Approximately six-eight finalists were selected from each class at the South East county heats to attend the Final.

Two GBS Grade 7 students took part in the RAD South East Award Heats and successfully got through to the RAD Awards Final.  The final will take place at the RAD Headquarters in London.

The Margot Fonteyn International Ballet Competition

Group Tickets.

There is an opportunity to watch The Margot Fonteyn International Ballet Competition (formerly known as The Genée Competition) at the Royal Opera House, London.  The Margot Fonteyn competition is hosted yearly in various locations around the world.  This year the competition returns to London and will be held at the Royal Opera House for the first time.

Six tickets (£66.30 each) and four tickets (£79.90 each) have been reserved for the final of the competition on Saturday 5th September 2020.

Geneva Ballet School Photography Session

Geneva Ballet School’s students in the higher grades are being offered the chance to have a professional photographer take photographs of their dancing.  These students will be given a free photograph each.  Further photographs will be available to purchase.

The photography session will take place on Sunday 24th November 2019.  If you would like your child to participate, please email info@genevaballetschool.co.uk.  Please be aware that numbers are limited.

Congratulations to GBS Grade 2 student!

Many Geneva Ballet School students, their families and friends were thoroughly entertained during the English Youth Ballet Company’s performance of ‘Cinderella in Hollywood’ at the New Theatre Oxford on Saturday 15th June 2019.  Geneva Ballet School’s RAD Grade 2 student performed in ‘The Movie’ scene and ‘Tea for Two’.
